At this moment, you may have dozens and even hundreds of emails promising that affiliate marketing is one of the residual income business opportunities of the century. Books have been published suggesting that you can make six figures a year with nothing more than a web site and Google AdSense. Others suggest that promoting products from the publishing site ClickBank is the road to riches.
Are any of them right? I say they all are as long as you take the information into context and then develop and act on a success plan that works.
Before going into Internet affiliate marketing, I’m reminded of a story I heard about billionaire investor Warren Buffet. As I’ve heard, one of his first ventures was the purchase of a pin ball machine. Long before the days of Xbox, people dumped dimes into these entertainment devices by the truckload. Warren pocketed every dime until he had enough to buy a second machine. From those two machines, he collected dimes at twice the rate until he bought a third and a fourth.
Eventually, he owned a thriving cash machine where he was accumulating dollars by the minute instead of dimes.
What does this have to do with affiliate marketing?
A lot.
Take something as simple as displaying Google AdSense on your web site. Each page you create is like a piece of virtual real estate. Every time you build a new property, you can put up your own signs. Just like the LA freeway, you don’t want to put up too many signs or people will tune it all out. Placed properly, Google ads speak to the person visiting your web page and when they click an add, you earn a share of what Google is paid by the advertiser.
Usually, you’re earning pennies per click but as you build your property you can multiply those pennies into dimes and then dollars. One expert Internet marketer told me his goal is to build a web site until it earns an average of $10 a day. The last time I spoke to him, he had over 1,400 web sites.
Other forms of affiliate marketing can work in a similar way. You can write special reports which contain embedded affiliate links for products and publish them through your own website or document sharing sites like scribd. Most people shouldn’t expect to make a sale through this method every day but again, each document is like virtual real estate. As long as you’re persistent you too can build a fleet of cash flow generating properties.
Is Internet affiliate marketing, the residual income business opportunities of the century? With only a decade into it, the answer may be yes for the moment. One this is for sure, people are doing it successfully and you can too.
